Our PE Curriculum
A high-quality P.E. curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. At Kestrel Mead, the P.E. curriculum provides opportunities for pupils to compete in sports and other activities that build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect. It provides opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness for life.
The P.E. curriculum aims to ensure all pupils develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities; are physically active for sustained periods of time; engage in competitive sports and activities; lead healthy, active lives.
P.E across the school is taught for 2 hours each week: one indoor and one outdoor session. The outdoor P.E. is delivered by the school sports coach and his apprentice, except one unit of netball which is delivered by class teachers. The indoor P.E. is also taught by children’s class teacher. Swimming takes place in Year 4, therefore this replaces their indoor P.E. slot.
A mixture of intra-school and inter-school competitions run throughout the year, including whole school sports days. In addition to this, Friday Flair is dedicated to sports throughout the summer term, where children will have the opportunity to learn a range of sports from football and rugby to yoga and dance.
See below for some tweets showing some of what we have been learning recently in our PE lessons.
We also have a weekly after school kickboxing club that is run by Tasha from Leicester Kickboxing…
